Content
Content is the fuel that drives the
lonely web surfer. The various products available on the web may get a
surfer occasionally, but what keeps so many people staring glassy eyed
at their computer screens into the wee hours of the morning is the
vast content available on the web.
If you gear your site to simply sell your product and do nothing else,
chances are you probably won't sell anything. Why? Because nobody will
go there unless they are looking specifically for your product and
they just so happen to find it via a search engine (See "Search Engine
Tactics" available for free at the
Internet Marketing
Library).
If you offer content, however, people will come to your site for it
and will come back for more.
Once again, the only limits here are your limitations. What type of
special knowledge do you have the people will want? If you don't think
that you can create some quality content on your own (not likely if
you just think about it), then why don't you try to offer content from
some important figure in your field? In return you can give them a
back-link to their website from the article/column. Most people will
jump at the opportunity to have their ideas printed somewhere else.
It's a win/win situation. You benefit by adding draw to your site and
they benefit from the increased exposure.
I did this for Hot Rod Your Head
and it's now a huge success. I have several well-known authors writing
columns for the site.
So am I something special? Well, no! I just had the cajones needed to
approach these people. That's all it takes.
Handling yourself professionally and courteously helps a bit, too, of
course.
I linked this site into another site I run,
Potentools.com. Potentools is
purely commerce. A shopping mall and nothing more. But the number of
hits I get as a result of the content at Hot Rod Your Head makes it a
pretty successful online mall.
If you still don't have any ideas, just look around at some other
websites and see what they are doing. You need to be original, of
course, but this should help you get some ideas
